Word Problems

This year in Mrs. Waites' class we have talked about WORD PROBLEMS.Word problems are like problems written out that deal with math. Some word problems spell out numbers. Some are predictions, like how many jelly beans do you think are in the candy jar? Hey let's look at two word problems and let you answer them!

If Drake bought twelve toys and got eight more toys as a gift, how many toys does he have in all?

If Meg has twenty stamps and she gave eight to Jessica, how many would she have left?

Can you answer these questions more than one way? Can you use different types of math methods? Name some.
GA GPS- M3P1 Students will solve problems.

Geometry Everywhere?

In Mrs.waites class we've been talking a lot about geometry. So our questions today will be about this shape. What is the shape in the picture? How many sides does it have? Can you name other things that have this shape? How many angles does this object have? What type of angles are they?

GA GPS- M3G1- Students will further develop their understanding of geometric figures by drawing them. They will also explain their properties.

Probability

In Mrs. Waites' class we have been discussing probability. In the video at the bottom, it shows me doing probability. This time YOU tell us what you think probability is. If you know what probability is, then tell us. Ask US a probabilty question.

Now watch the video below. How many possible outcomes are there when tossing a die? What is the probability of tossing a 1? What is the probability of tossing a 3?

GA GPS M3P3- Students will communicate mathematically.

Division

In Mrs. Waites' class we are learning division. So our question for today is going to be about division. Tell us why you like division. What is your favorite division problem? If you are learning division tell us your favorite part about it? How would you use division in daily life? By: Jamie

GA GPS- M3N4- Students will understand the meaning of division and apply it to problem solving.

Eating Fractions?

We have been learning a lot about fractions in Mrs. Waites' class. I never really knew how we use fractions in our daily life. Like when you go to a pizza place and you have to use fractions. When you cut the pizza and give a piece to everyone eating, you have to make sure you give equal parts. You can say that a person got a fraction of the pizza. For example, look at the picture to the left. What fraction of this pizza has been eaten? What are two ways that you can write the fraction eaten? If I sat down with 2 other friends how many pieces of pizza could the three of us equally get? What are some other ways to divide the pizza?

GA GPS- M3M5- Students will understand the meaning of decimal fractions and common fractions in simple cases and apply them in problem-solving situations.
